Operations began on January 2, 1989 with a statewide, toll-free telephone number for people to call and provide crime-solving tips to law enforcement while remaining anonymous.
Nebraska Crime Stoppers started it’s program in 1989. It is comprised of a board consisting of citizens, law enforcement, and members of the media. This state program started with a dual purpose in mind. One was to establish a network for reporting crime tips in an anonymous way, along with being eligible for a cash reward. The second purpose for the Nebraska Crime Stoppers program was to assist in the establishment of local Crime Stoppers programs across the state.
